The mission of Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ is to bear witness to the Love of God in Jesus Christ through reaching out in faithful service to persons and groups in need; through using our resources as faithful stewards; celebrating God’s presence and promises to all who labor and trust in His eternal realm of justice and peace.

We strive to follow Jesus’ command to his disciples in John 21 and Matthew 25 to feed, love, and care for His sheep - the sick and hurting, the thirsty and hungry, and the homeless among us.

When Church of the Apostles was formed in 1975, the congregation was charged to engage in Christian Ministry in three areas:

  • Ministry within the congregation

  • Ministry in the surrounding community

  • Ministry beyond our community

Ministry within the congregation:

Worship is the central focus for this ministry.  The Spiritual Council urges all members to participate in all areas of worship and its components.  Attend worship on Sunday morning, during Lent and all the services provided thru the church year and participate in an educational class.  Fellowship opportunities with members and visitors are provided throughout the year.  Maintain and enhance the church properties with your time and talents.  See the Commissions' volunteer list below to find other ways to minister within the congregation.

Ministry with the surrounding community and beyond our community:

The Outreach programs at this church are very extensive.  We reach out to people far and near.  We share our campus with community groups, agencies and a retirement community.  We are a member of the Lancaster County Council of Churches and the Lancaster Association of the Penn Central Conference of the UCC.  Our sister church is the Rehoboth Congregational Church in Namibia, Africa.

The first Saturday of each month church members cook and serve breakfast to the homeless at First Reformed UCC in Lancaster. On some weekends, meals are also prepared for the Crispus Attucks Center.

Our newest venture is helping staff the overnight Overflow Shelter for the homeless at First Reformed UCC in Lancaster. These are only a few of the many "Opportunities for Service" available through our Outreach program. Come join us and help serve others in need!

Work in our Food Bank, sorting and packing food items to fill orders from the Lancaster County Council of Churches, or help to deliver these bags of groceries along with donated clothing to the LCCC food and clothing banks.

Food bank needs this week include:  potatoes, fruit, peanut butter, baked beans, rice, soup, crackers and tomatoes.

Join our members from Outreach and the Property Commission who help keep Good Drive trash to a minimum from Marietta Avenue to Columbia Avenue

We always need helpers to pack and transport donated items for our Wishing Well which are sent to such organizations as Clare House, Milagro House, CAP "Promise Program", PRIME refugee resettlement, Vantage, and Transitional Living Center.

If you like to walk, you can become involved in our Relay for Life Team, or the CROP WALK, or the Heart Walk organized by some of our members
