The 2000 census
reported that the majority of East Hempfield residents are white, non-Hispanic
(92.3%) with a wide variety of other races represented in the township: Hispanic
(2.8%), Asian (2.5%), African-American (1.5%), and Multi-racial (.7%). The
majority of East Hempfield residents have lived in the same house for the last
five years and the majority of those who have moved into East Hempfield have
moved from elsewhere in Lancaster County. |

Public Services
The East Hempfield Township Police Department was formed in 1963 and provides
24/7 coverage for the township.
Eleven employees make up the Public Works Department. They are
responsible for the township roads (100 miles) and maintenance of the township
parks and properties. The township is serviced by the Red Rose Transit
Authority. |
