HISTORY OF THE PRESCHOOL |
|
In 1965, St. John’s Community Preschool was
begun at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Wheatland Hills by Rev. Glenn and
Janet Rader, as an outreach to parents of young children in the church and
neighboring community.
A merger of St. John’s with St. Paul’s
U.C.C. from downtown Lancaster formed Church of the Apostles U.C.C. The
Preschool relocated to the Marietta Avenue location in 1980 and became Apostles
Community Preschool. |

“Apostles Preschool in 1974
served as my first school experience. I can easily recall going to the Art Room
with Mrs. Witmer and experiencing finger paints and water colors for the first
time. As an educator today, sending my own sons to Apostles was an easy choice.
The dedication of the staff to provide developmentally appropriate experiences
for preschoolers is exemplary. Today I credit Apostles Preschool for my sons’
and my love of learning.”

Apostles Community
Preschool is conducted by Church of the Apostles as an expression of its concern
for assisting parents in the rearing of young children. The Preschool exists to
help each child grow and develop in trustful and loving relationships, enabling
each child to develop to his/her fullest potential.
Set in a Christian
context, the school encourages each child to grow emotionally, socially,
physically, and academically, by providing a variety of hands-on experiences.
The program is designed
to help children adjust to a group learning situation, while fostering their
individual feelings of self-worth. The school seeks to encourage a
positive attitude toward school and learning, while providing a strong
foundation for reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science. |
